A Senator supported aid to Morsi and wants to cut it under the anti-Ikhwan Government. This debate seem to be in chaos, while priorities in US national security should be clear. US Aid in the Middle East should be directed to governments that are actively fighting Jihadi Terrorism and moving their countries towards pluralist democracies.
The current Egyptian Government was installed by two massive democratic revolutions, is containing the Muslim Brotherhood urban warfare, pushing back against Hamas, and is fighting al Qaeda in Sinai.
What is the chaotic debate trying to get to?
The picture is actually clear, the US should direct its aid in a very specific manner to the forces that are fighting the Jihadists and moving forward towards democracy, away from authoritarianism and Salafi fascism.
The Ikhwan propaganda is disorienting the public debate in the US, spreading confusion to gain time in Egypt. Citizens must explain it to their elected representatives: think strategically.
