She described the place where she was held as an apartment in Cairo. She said “Two women wearing niqab (full veil) watched over me but denied me all means of media such as TV and newspapers. They tried daily to ‘brainwash’ me to leave Christianity and convert to Islam, but to no avail.”
“I am a Christian and I will live and die a Christian,” Eman Morcos stated, contradicting the words of the Interior Minister Mohammad Ibrahim, who claimed a few days ago that she had left of her free will and later converted to Islam.
She accused the minister of being a plain liar.
She said that the commissioner of the Samalout police station appeared to be communicating by phone with the kidnapper during her captivity and telling him not to return to the village till things calm down.
Eman described her kidnapping incident, saying, “I went to visit my mother on September 3. While I was standing in front of the house, a person named Hamada (an acquaintance of the husband) anesthetized me using a strange liquid, and pushed me in a car. When I woke up, I found myself in an apartment of a Cairo neighborhood. I begged him to take me back to my home, but he refused. He tried to dissuade me by saying that my husband would kill me if I returned back after leaving.”
She said she was photographed wearing a full veil, then had another (veiled) woman extracted a replacement ID card instead of her. That woman disguised as being Eman went to Al-Azhar to declare conversion to Islam.
Eman said she managed to escape as the watchful women were busy praying. Having no money, she took a taxi to some relatives’ home in Cairo and contacted her husband from there. A car was sent to take her back to her village by the evening. The villagers were waiting for her on the outskirts of the village in jubilation.
Men guarded all the entrances of the village for fear that people from the kidnapper’s neighboring village of Bani Ahmed would attack.
The husband is reported to be filing a police report on the return of his abducted wife and the details of her ordeal.
