The following is an urgent call for help, circulated in a number of sites and posted by the prominent secularist writer Khaled Montaser in his Facebook page. Far from being unique, it highlights the struggle of a courageous Coptic young woman against attempts of forced conversion to Islam.

Please save us from Mr. Wael Hassan Abdel, resident of Nazlet Thabet. I am a Christian girl, and he is a detective at the Matai police center. He had asked to marry me and change my religion. (When) he failed in his attempts, he started to persecute me and burned the contents of the grocery store which we own. He also tore my clothes and harassed me and threatened me by the official weapon he holds.
I made a complaint at the police center of Matai, but (his colleagues) threatened to put me in jail in order to relinquish the complaint. On Saturday, 4 Jan. 2014 (he) entered my house and tampered with its contents, so I filed a complaint to prove the status, however (his policemen colleagues) not only did not come (to take note), but colluded with him and detained me for 24 hours. This is not to mention insults, flirting and harassments and exerting pressure on me to relinquish the complaint record. I finally did relinquish the record under pressure and torture.
I know very well that he is religiously sectarian (extremist) and he took advantage of his position as a detective.
I have just one sister, and my father is elderly, and so is my mother. My family is poor. I do not have anybody but the Lord.
We ask you to kindly take action to help us against this person as soon as possible, before a sectarian strife occurs between Muslims and Christians.
The numbers of the police reports I filed are: The first is #4277 – Misdemeanor Matai. The second is #10093 Misdemeanor Matai. The third is Status Proof # 27-2014, 27 Administrative.
Today 10 Sept. 2 014, he beat me and my sister and attacked us. We hope for your urgent attention and intervention.
