Victim of Failed Kidnapping Attempt Accused of “Slander”

-

Nashed told MCN the prosecutor of the Nag Hammadi case said the defendant’s lawyer provided a flash memory with audio recordings of Nashed defaming his client on talk shows.

Nashed pointed out he told the prosecutor he resorted to talk shows in attempts to restore the usurped rights of Copts in light of lawlessness and to highlight some of their problems in the media.

Nashed denied the charges of slander, saying he has openly discussed cases of kidnapped Copts and describes kidnappers as thugs, though he did not mention specific names or the name of their village.

Nashed stressed the complaint filed against him is an attempt to silence Copts and stop them from seeking their rights, noting such cases have become more frequent since the revolution. He said he will continue to disclose the problems faced by Copts in Nag Hammadi, whatever the cost.

Kidnappings of Copts and the disappearances of underage girls have spread dramatically in Egypt recently, especially in the Qena and Minya governorates.
