“Deliberate ignorance by the state in dealing with the issue of the church allowed other external bodies to criticize the state’s position on this issue because it is one of the flagrant human rights issues that violated the rights of Copts in Egypt,” Malak noted.
As of now, no serious investigation has been conducted to discover the involved parties in this massacre. The Egyptian judiciary issued rulings in other events that took place after the massacre of the church, such as Port Said Stadium massacre, in which 74 people were killed. Twenty-two defendants in this case were sentenced to death.
