State Security Agency Fabricated Charges Against Convert, Says Lawyer

-

“The national security agency fabricated several charges after Bishoy has been in custody for 3 days until he was brought to prosecution. The fabricated charges include spying for foreign organizations, photographing vital installations, proselytizing, and inciting sectarian strife,” Nakhla said.

Nakhla told MCN that the punishment of these charges would be life imprisonment with hard labor. He added that Bishoy denied all the charges against him.

The lawyer said that the national security tracked Bishoy from when he came to the village of Badraman until he was arrested when he went to the lawyers syndicate in Minya.

“The release of Bishoy is difficult because of these charges and intransigence of the National Security Agency, but the defense team will be able to attend the investigations to defend him,” Nakhla noted.

Religious conversion in Egypt is permitted only from Christianity to Islam. Conversion to Christianity usually leads converts to face many risks, including death by militants, prosecution by security services, exposure to death threats and torture to leave Christianity.
