Saber Aboul Fotouh, FJP labor committee head, suggested a draft law that would allow the Interior Ministry to contract private security firms to make arrests and quell dissent in light of the widespread police strikes. The FJP member’s idea provoked immediate reactions by voices throughout Egypt, with the former head of the Egyptian Judges Club calling it “utterly absurd.”
Al-Gama’a al-Islamiya announced last Friday that it was planning “security militias” to help secure parts of Upper Egypt in light of police absence.
