-

Obama discussed with Ambassador Reda the strategic relations between the two countries calling it a fundamental pillar for stability and fighting terrorism in the region.

They affirmed the importance of building on the results of the first round of the strategic dialogue between the two countries.

President Abdel-Fatah Al Sisi had issued a decision in June to appoint the 57-year-old diplomat as Cairo's ambassador in Washington replacing Mohamed Tawfik.

Tawfik had served as the Egyptian Ambassador to Washington since 2012.

Reda served as the Egyptian Ambassador to Tel Aviv from 2008 till 2012.

Egypt recalled Reda in August 2011 from Tel Aviv for consultation in order to protest of the deaths of five Egyptian security forces in a security border incident.

Since 2012, Reda has worked as an advisor to Egypt's foreign Minister.

He had previously served in Egypt's diplomatic missions in China, Cyprus, Italy, Iraq and Germany.
