Investigations into Maspero Massacre Not Serious, Say Lawyers

-

If the aim of the new process is to satisfy the Coptic people, it is in vain, he said, our only option now is to find a solution on the international level.

The Egyptian authorities have not conducted investigations with the military rulers who gave orders to the soldiers, while they prosecuted three soldiers. Two Copts have been sentenced to three-year in prison in accusations of stealing weapons.

Mofed Thabet, another civil claimant lawyer for the case, told MCN that the group had submitted a complaint to the prosecutor-general against former Defense Minister Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, calling for him to be investigated as an accused in the case.

Judge Tharwat Hamad, head of investigations mandated by the Ministry of Justice, listened to the testimony of three families of the victims related to complaint submitted against the SCAF, holding them responsible for the 24 deaths.

The investigations started at 1:00 pm and continued until 5:00 pm on Tuesday. The investigator asked about the reasons that “pushed” the families of victims to accuse the military leaders, the reasons of the (original) protest in Maspero and the demonstrators’ demands.

The investigations are scheduled to be completed on Wednesday.
