He told MCN the details of arresting them, saying, “bearded armed people arrested us, insulting us with offending phrases, including ‘let us go unbeliever.. let us go Jew.. let us go Christian.’ They led us to a police battalion that appeared to have no authority over the Islamic group Sharia Supporters.”
He added, “In the beginning, we have been assaulted with sticks and hoses, ordering us to crawl on gravel in order to inflict to wounds on our bodies. We were insulted, humiliated and our hair shaved. They mocked our religion as how to worship crucified God.”
He added, “We were a large group composed of 200 to 300 persons. We were tortured during the night, and forced to say “Allah Akbar.” Some of us turned to insult Pope Shenouda III under torture. They attempted to force us to pronounce the shahada, but we refused. They asked me who is Christ? I answered he is God, so they intensified assaulting me.”
“I would not forget what happened with me,” Guirguis continued. “They were taking one of us, saying to him, ‘Shake hands with your friends as you would not see them again. We would cut your neck in five minutes’ then we hear his screaming. We were crying fearing for him.”
He added, “I worked abroad for years to save money, but they seized my money. I had to borrow money to return to Egypt. I was imprisoned and humiliated at the borders (with Egypt) for days without food or drink. It is unforgettable experience.”
“I pray to God to return my right for me. If anyone could do anything to restore the rights of those people who had been killed or tortured, he should do as much as possible.”
