Five Years Later, Two Saints Church Massacre Remains a Mystery

-

On the 5th anniversary of Two Saints Church massacre in Alexandria committed in the first minutes of 2011, that killed 24 Copts and injured hundreds, victims' families say that they have lost hope, and that the state does not want to pursue the murderers.

They told MCN that "they resort to God, as there is no justice on earth."

Dr. Youstina Naguib told MCN that her husband of three years Samuael Gerges was injured in the bombing and died after 20 days of the massacre and throughout that period, he was treated inside and outside Egypt. Their son was one year and a half at the time of the incident.

“We talked about the case several times, but to no avail. We lost hope that we can know the truth. Several presidents and governments have been changed since 2011 and no one paid attention to the case,” she said, adding “Is it difficult for the Egyptian Intelligence Agency to solve such mystery?”

Fakry Naguib who lost all his family members in the massacre including his wife Sonia Soliman, two daughters Mariam and Martina and his sister-in-law Samira Soliman told MCN, “From my opinion, non-identification of perpetrators is due to presence of persons in the state until today and they are involved in these bombings.”

Naguib accused the Interior Ministry of failure to secure Two Saints church on the night of the incident. He said that many churches including Two Saints church were threatened and security forces just cordoned off the church with linen ropes.

He went on, “Since massacre, the street of the church has been closed by security forces and cars have been prohibited from passing, as if perpetrators of these bombings will bomb the same church again.”

Dimiana Yacoub, wife of victim Sabry Fawzy, told MCN that they have addressed officials for five year with no response and God would reveal the truth. Meanwhile, Kyrillos, one of her three sons and student at commerce faculty said that the massacre was committed at night and the case is still mysterious.

Sahar Sobhy, wife of victim Adel Azizi, told MCN, “My husband died as a result of multiple injuries all over his body and face. He was severely injured, as he was standing at the door of the church at time of bombings.” She added that her daughter Meriam miraculously survived from certain death, as she was going to her father, but the bombings separated them.

She went on, “There is no case, because the state does not want to reveal perpetrators.” She mentioned, “I believe in the verse of the bible that say “God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God.”

She added, “Presence of a cemetery for martyrs in Mar Mina Monastery at Mariot is a great thing and we thank church.” She stressed that church and priests stood beside families of martyrs in their tragedy and church asked the state to give exceptional pensions like martyrs of January revolution. She mentioned that life of wives changed, as breadwinner of the family died and they started to search for jobs to meet needs of their families.
