Ex Senior Judge: “The Brotherhood’s System Is Repressive, Marginalizes Copts”

-

According to Cllr. Sheikh, the government fears the Islamists and stands with them against Copts.

“The judiciary is not fair and was infiltrated by the executive branch,” Cllr. Sheikh added. “The future will reveal the usurped rights of Copts.”

Cllr. Sheikh pointed out that the laws, which provide for freedom of belief and citizenship, are now just ink on paper, as demonstrated by the frequent attacks on Copts and the government’s ignorance of such practices.

Cllr. Sheikh stressed that extremist Islamic religious channels, which accuse Copts of being ‘nonbelievers,’ are one of the reasons behind the spread of sectarian crises and that fatwas to prevent congratulating Copts on their festivals are issued by abnormal people who want to destroy the country.

Commenting on the possibility of enacting a law to criminalize kidnapping of Coptic girls, a fast spreading phenomenon, Cllr. Sheikh said “This law will not come to light because such legislation needs a parliament that is not controlled by Islamists, which is currently impossible. Also, the laws for building houses of worship and personal status will not come to light as well due to the deliberate marginalization of Copts.”

“President Morsi has lost his legitimacy and no longer represents the people,” Cllr. Sheikh said, adding that “Morsi’s decisions since he took over office are shocking and wrong and do not serve the interests of the homeland.”

In Cllr. Sheikh’s opinion, the Muslim Brotherhood failed to rule Egypt because they are not qualified for such a mission, arguing that they will not get one fourth of the votes in the upcoming parliamentary elections, because people regret voting for them.

Cllr. Sheikh called on President Morsi to resign and step down from power because if he does not take this step willingly, he will be forced to take it. He pointed out that the president must calm down the demonstrators, and not threaten them with more strict actions in his speeches.

When asked about the relationship between President Morsi and the Constitutional Court, Cllr. Sheikh said the president defied the court because it made the historical ruling on the parliament’s invalidity. An article, therefore, was drafted in the Constitution to remove Cllr. Tahani el-Gebali, former vice president of the Constitutional Court, by reducing the number of the court’s members to 11.

For Cllr. Sheikh, the career history of Cllr. Ahmed Mekki, Minister of Justice, does not qualify him for his current position, but he was granted such a position for his inclination to the Brotherhood.

All statements made by Cllr. Hossam el-Gheriani, president of the National Council for Human Rights and former Chairman of the Constituent Assembly, reveal his Islamic orientations. The presence of the current Attorney General is illegal because the president of the republic does not have the power to sack the Attorney General.

According to Cllr. Sheikh, the new constitution is invalid and must be thwarted. “The Brotherhood system will fall, either by Morsi’s stepping down or by shedding more blood, and the Brotherhood will return again to their hideouts,” Cllr. Sheikh concluded.
