Egypt’s Dar al-Ifta, the nation’s official institute for issuing Islamic fatwas to keep Muslims on the “right path,” issued a fatwa on November 10 banning boys 10-years and older from sleeping in the same bed with their mothers. The fatwa also bans the boys from sleeping next to their sisters or any other women, “both those forbidden to him or those not.”
The fatwa clarified the reason for the ban by saying that “The 10-year-old boy is cognizant of intercourse, nor does he have any religion to prevent him, and he may fall upon his mother or sister…. Moreover, bedtime is conducive for arousing lust, and the clothes of either party may be moved exposing the genitals, leading to illegal sexual intercourse, especially among this younger generation, which is more acquainted with depraved behavior than their elders.”
