Copts Are Treated as “Infidels” by Muslim Brotherhood Regime, Says Researcher

-

Ali pointed out that violence against Christians has doubled about 10 times more than it was in the past, and that nearly 1000 Copts have been killed since 1972. He added that president Morsi seems to believe that building churches must be prohibited in the land of Islam and, if permitted, this would represent a sin punishable by Allah.

Speaking to MCN, Ali said that young Muslims, with help of Salafis, lure and abduct underage Coptic girls for the purpose of Islamizing them; land belonging to Copts is seized and people are displaced in a trend that has continued since the former regime.

According to Ali, Christians were displaced from the villages of Bani Ahmed el-Sharqiya, Bani Ahmed el-Gharbiya and Abu Qurqas in Minya and their land was usurped in 1992, 1993 and 199. Further, 40 Copts were killed when they refused to pay tribute at the time. Additionally, St. George’s Church in Abu Qurqas was stormed and 13 Copts were killed while they were exercising their religious rites.

No one was ever punished for any of these crimes.

Ali pointed out that the classification of Copts as a “counteractive system” by Khairat el-Shater, deputy leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, in a document leaked after his meeting with the Brotherhood leaders from all over Egypt last February, amounts to incitement against Copts.

Ali said the document also claimed that young Coptic people have been trained on violence by gunmen from Lebanon and have an armed organization called the “Black Block”, which is a direct accusation of the church in Egypt of funding a scheme against the president and the Muslim Brotherhood.

Ali believes such allegations will result in various forms of violence against Copts.

“The Muslim Brotherhood, the Army of Islam, led by Mumtaz Durmush, and elements of Hamas in Egypt took part in the bombing of the two Saints Church in Alexandria. The January 25 revolution broke out days after that incident. The Muslim Brotherhood spread rumors that Habib el-Adli, the interior minister at the time, was the one who stood behind the bombing of the church. Many believed that story, especially Copts.

The Muslim Brotherhood were also the perpetrators of the Maspero massacre, in which several Copts were killed and wounded, but they spread rumors that the army was responsible for killing Copts in the massacre, and again many Egyptians believed that,” Ali explained.

He stressed that violence against Copts in Rafah in northern Sinai and not allowing them to re-build a church that was burned in the aftermath of the January revolution, is not strange. He pointed out that Sinai is now inhabited by jihadists and the followers of Al-Qaeda due to the absence of the state of law.

Ali concluded by noting that security officials did not take action in the recent events of Khosos City, St. Mark’s cathedral and other incidents of violence against Copts because their religious teachings prevent them from doing justice to Copts.
