“ISIS is not just regionalized, like the administration says in only Iraq and Syria,” McCaul told host Chris Wallace on “Fox News Sunday.”
“This is a global threat,” he said. “This is a new generation of terrorists.”
McCaul’s remarks follow a trio of terrorist attacks worldwide on Friday.
ISIS is claiming responsibility for a beheading in France, a mosque bombing in Kuwait and a mass shooting in Tunisia.
McCaul said on Sunday that any debate over whether ISIS inspired or managed the violent acts is mere “semantics.”
“I think in all three instances that ISIS was the driving force,” he said. “There were very significant attacks.”
McCaul additionally asked Americans to practice caution at home in the wake of the attacks.
He cited the Islamic holiday of Ramadan, ISIS’s one-year anniversary and the upcoming July Fourth weekend as a rare mix of inspirations for the terrorist group.
“I think the concern is the confluence of all these events,” McCaul said.
“There is a great deal of chatter,” he said. “We are being on the cautious side here.”
“We urge people to be vigilant as they celebrate this holiday next weekend,” McCaul added.
